You may submit a résumé to an employer but discover later that there is a typo in paragraph three. You might text a friend to invite them to your party, but later realize that the last number should have been 4 instead of 7. You may have ordered curly fries when you wanted onion rings.
Everybody makes mistakes!
Most of the time, these mistakes are laughable and easily corrected. If you make these mistakes, you can cause irreversible damage to your carpet and reduce its lifespan.
1. You Wait to Clean the Spill
You may not be able to see spills immediately if you are too busy or absent when they occur. You might find evidence of an accident the following day, or even the week after depending on where the spill occurred.
The longer you delay in removing a stain the more difficult it will be. Some liquids may seep into the carpet backing or underlay, or sink deep enough to stain the entire pile. Some materials can bond with fibers quickly, making it difficult or impossible to remove. Set stains are difficult to remove, and require advanced stain-removal techniques. They don’t respond well to normal cleaning products or spotting agents.
2. You Don’t Test Cleaning Products
You may be tempted to use the all-purpose cleaner to remove a stain in a hurry. If you do not check the label you could end up using chemicals that are too harsh for your carpet type. Follow the label instructions to prevent permanent damage. Test the product, even if it seems to be suitable for carpeting.
3. Do You Use Too Much Powder?
On the market, you can find a variety of powdered products that are designed to handle spills or odors on the spot. These powders might work, but we do not recommend them. These powders usually leave behind a residue of the substance that was spilled and some dampened powder on the carpet. We recommend a method that will remove the stain completely and rinse any product used in the removal process.
It is also very easy to build up powder on your carpet from either overuse or insufficient suction. Use a powdered cleaner sparingly, and ensure that your vacuum is in working order. It’s best to use one with an electric motorized head.
4. You Scrub Vigorously
You may want to scrub as hard as possible when you have a difficult stain. You might think that a little elbow grease and old-fashioned scrubbing will clean almost anything.
The more you rub the fabric, the greater the chance of spreading the stain and/or pushing it deeper into the pile. In addition, vigorous scrubbing can cause the fibers to unravel and fray. This results in an unattractive fuzz effect.
Instead of squeezing the stain, dab it lightly with a damp cloth. Begin by dabbing the outside of the stain and then work your way inwards.
5. All Your Cleaning Can Be Done by Yourself
You may maintain your home by yourself if you are a do-it-yourself homeowner. Vacuuming your floors will help to keep them clean and free of dirt. You keep your carpets clean by placing mats in the entrance and keeping the area directly adjacent to the carpets as clean as possible.
